Travel Recap: Tobago Day 1

I told my boyfriend that he had to take a picture by the wall since he's from Tobago. Being the good man that he is, he obliged  lol
I spent my morning sightseeing around the town of Scarborough. My boyfriend, who was born and raised in Tobago acted as my tour guide  for the day (thanks babe!). He showed me his primary school and high school as well as some spots where he and his friends liked to hang out growing up. We also walked up and down town where we saw various shops and fruit stands and enjoyed the views of the coastline. Tobago has a very hilly terrain. Like, walking around the Island will show you how in or out of shape you are. I'm definitely out of shape! All the walking made us so tired that we went home to rest for a little bit. Once we regained our energy, we enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at the beach.

Engalnd Travel Recap: London

I loved everything about London from its diversity of people, foods, and cultures, to its sights. I only spent two days in the city, so I didn't get to explore everything, but I did get to see quite a bit of Westminster. My father (My travel buddy and the man who made my trip possible. Thanks dad!)  and I decided to spend a few hours exploring Westminster the day before we flew home. We also visted some family during our first two days in England. Westminster is home to the famous Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the London Eye (all pictured above), and many other sites. Westminster also has some of the most beautiful architecture I have seen, then again, I think it's safe to say that Europe is known for its beautiful architecture so that's probably not surprising. Unfortunately, I didn't get to say hello to the queen (maybe on my next visit, haha), but I did see her house (Buckingham Palace) and admired the highly disciplined guards.

The most exciting part of my trip was witnessing in person all the buildings and structures that I read about and saw pictures of as a child. I was also happy to spend time with my dad doing one of our favorite pastimes, being globetrotters. My father and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things but one thing we both agree on is seeing the world. Travel not only allows you to experience new cultures and gaze at beautiful sites, it also gives you perspective. Every time, I visit a country, I'm able to to learn new things and see the world in a different way. Visiting England with my father as well as other countries has also reminded me how blessed I am. Travelling abroad can be very expensive, and I'm blessed that my father has funded most of those trips so that I could have the best experience possible. Together, we have ventured to Spain, Morocco, Ireland, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Italy, China, and now we can add England to the list. I have also traveled to the Bahamas, Aruba, Panama, and Mexico without my father. As I'm starting my first full time job after college in a week and a half, I don't know the next time I'll be able to travel with my father. However, it is my hope that we can see more of the world together and continue to make memories. If you ever get the opportunity to travel abroad, do it! It'll be an experience you will never forget. Also, remember that travelling abroad does not have to be expensive. There are many websites and airlines that offer cheap plane accommodations. I hope this post has inspired you to see the world!

The #sixohnineproject

Hey everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. My past week was eventful from start to finish. As you know, I took a quick trip to England and came back on Friday. The first event I attended after arriving back in New Jersey was the Six Oh Nine Project.
The Six Oh Nine Project was an exhibition curated by S.Bola Okoya (left) and Albert Matlock (right) in Tenton, NJ (In case you're wondering, 609 is the area code for Trenton, NJ). The artwork and garments displayed at the exhibition depicted the theme of city life. I know both men from college and have long admired their work so I had to support my fellow TCNJ alums. I think Bola and Albert did a great job of showcasing work that was both visually appealing and told stories of urban life.
Unfortunately, I had to leave the event before the toast. Congratulations to Albert and Bola on the success of your exhibit! I know you two have a lot more art to share with the world in the future and I look forward to seeing it. Special thanks to my photographer, Alfred, for capturing and sharing the pictures from the event. It was a great time.
You can see more photos from the event on Instagram by typing in #sixohnineproject in the search bar.
You know I love the street art in Trenton, so I decided to snap my outfit in front of some of the art.
Oh, and I got to spend time with my sister friend Kia! If you follow me on instagram, you know that Kia and I like to get dressed and go places together. Feel free to follow our style adventures on instagram: @hstylesquared and hstylesquared.tumblr.com

Jeans (extremely old)-South Pole (yes, I've had these jeans  for years)
Necklace-Zara

What I wore: I must admit I threw this outfit together at the last minute. I actually, thought about my outfit earlier during the day so that I would not have to rush to find something to wear when I got home. However. when I put on the pants I intended to wear, they were too tight! So, I tried on a pair and shorts, and they were also too tight! Basically, I gained a few pounds over the last few weeks (I completely blame the stress of the end of the semesters and studying for my finals exams). Needless to say, I threw together an outfit that will never let me down: all black everything, well almost. I decided to enliven my look with a statement necklace. My top was purchased during my trip to England and sure came in handy!

England Travel Recap: Torquay

When people think of places in England, I think it's safe to say that the first place that comes to mind is London. However, England has so much more to offer than it's famed capital city. Tourquay is a seaside town in Devon, England (located in the English Riviera).
Torquay is absolutely beautiful town with a lovely waterfront, ferris wheel, pubs & restaurants, and shops. Oh, and the town also has palm trees! I was actually amazed when I saw the palm trees because I never knew that England had palm trees until I visited Torquay.
The town also has some beautiful architecture and a very hilly terrain. So if ever visit Torquay and do a lot of walking, prepare to get a good leg workout.
Tourquay was my first stop in England after arriving at London's Heathrow ariport. The journey to the the town was a tiring 3+ hours. However, travelling to Torquay by train was pretty straight foward because England has a great public transit system that was relatively easy to figure out. The few times my dad and I got confused, we asked strangers for directions (the people in England were polite and willing to give directions to us travellers). Addtionally, the ride to the town was beautiful because the train past by daintly English houses, the sea, and farms with cows and sheep. I spent less than 24 hours in Tourquay, but I had a nice time taking in the bits of the town that I was able to see. I also got the opportunity to meet my dad's cousin who owns a boarding house in the town and was kind enough to host us for our visit (Hey Beverly!). If you're ever looking for a beautiful and peaceful place to visit in England that is not tourist infested, I recommend Torquay!
