A Promotion Worth Praying For

God can humble you and set you on high places within the span of a year. I wrote that down months ago believing that God was going to do something big in my life. Despite all the uncertainty of this year, one thing I know for sure is that 2020 is a triumphant year for me and it has been because I got promoted at the end of the first quarter!

When my manager pulled me to the side on March 31, 2020, to tell me I had earned a promotion, I felt immensely grateful because my promotion was a long time coming; it was the answer to a prayer I had been praying for almost 15 months. You see, I got very specific with my prayer life over the past year and even more intentional about the way I lived my life between January and March of this year. The more I focused my time and attention on God and His word, the more He gave to me. One of my prayers was for God to help me find favor with my superiors, peers, subordinates and all whom I need to accomplish my professional goal of producing excellent work and getting promoted. I prayed that prayer nearly every day, twice a day for 3 months.
There were many times throughout my journey when I couldn’t physically see God working on my behalf, but I maintained faith that He was working hard for me and I would see it in His perfect timing. When January came and went without a promotion, I got really angry to the point of tears and then I surrendered my will to God. I asked Him to promote me by the end of the first quarter if it was His will. So when God answered my specific prayer exactly on the date I asked for March 31, 2020, I knew He was honoring my faith and work ethic because we always have to back up faith with action! When my manager and site lead congratulated me on separate occasions (my manager first as he gave me the promotion news), they both said I exceeded the goals and expectations set for me. I praised God because I already knew that, but to hear and see them acknowledge my work meant a lot to me.
Trusting God for something is hard when you have to wait over a year to see Him answer the prayer the way you want. When you put action behind your faith (in my case, it was working diligently and strategically) and devote your life and will to Him, He will develop you and your prayer life in the process. I’ve grown immensely over the past year and learned what it really means to trust God. It you need God to do something big in your life, pray about it over and over again until you see it happen.
